As part of my transition from Fell Running to Trail Running, which started with Ennerdale, we journeyed down south to take part in the Kinder Trog. It was a beautiful day verging on being too hot and sunny. The Trog runs an extended loop around the Kinder Reservoir along the Hayfield skyline, which I’m told is the spiritual home of dark peak fell running. Not much fell running in it though, with most of the 15 miles consisting of rocky trails. This means navigation is mostly straightforward, although Jasmin, her brother and myself all managed to lose our way on the final descent into Hayfield. This however didn’t stop Jasmin from winning in 2:10:27 for 12th place overall, in the process breaking Jackie Lee’s old ladies record by about a minute. Meanwhile my detour left me in 7th overall in 2:05:12. The race was won by Kim Collison in 1:58:13
