Wednesday 7pm social run had 10 participants who took the 7 Hills route To Arthur’s Seat to do the 7 tops. After 3 deer last week it was a Tawny Owl this week on Whinny Hill. We returned via Prestonfield and Inch Park. Run on Strava here

Ladies’ run
The sun was shining and the seaside was calling so the ladies run headed down the coast to Dirleton for a 7.5 mile beach/trail run. We followed part of the John Muir Ultra course through the trees skirting the posh houses at Archerfield before emerging at Yellowcraigs and into the sunshine. We then turned west on a course bound for Gullane along deserted tracks and coves – the day trippers having headed for home! There are still numerous planks of wood adrift along the coast from the load that fell overboard a few months ago! We then skirted around the edge of Gullane, with a necessary half mile on tarmac, before reentering the woods around Archerfield and so back to Dirleton, just beating the return of the haar!

Lynsey wins Hardmoors 160
Massive congratulations to Lynsey Van Der Blyth who smashed the Hardmoors 160 ultra at the weekend! 160 miles of continuous running round the north Yorkshire moors, with a whopping 7000m of ascent. Lynsey was 5th out of the 7 that were able to complete the course, and she was the only female finisher.
Huge respect!

Some photos from Jura
Some photos from a much sunnier and mostly midge free Jura. Fifteen Carnethies out running. No records but some good results for several Carnethys.
1st female Jasmin Paris, 1st female vet 50 Michelle Hetherington, 2nd male vet 50 Dessie Flanagan. A few first timers, a few regulars and a few sub 4 hour times amongst our crew. Apologies if I missed other mentionable achievements. Well done everyone who took part and thanks to new race director Emily Greaves and crew and of course the people of Jura for a good weekend.
Sure the full results will be out soon. will not tell you now… so I don’t get it wrong. Someone else can do a race report as I was sitting at the finish timing everyone… a lot easier!!!

Carnethys marshal the Edinburgh Marathon (and half)
Some 25 Carnethys got up at a hideous hour of the morning and came in through the cold damp haar to marshal at the Edinburgh half and full marathon. A new start in Potterow this year combined the previous 2 starts into one very long one, but with the benefit of the University buildings being open for cafes and toilets. In the warm. Much better!
The half marathon took 27 minutes to pass the start line. That’s a lot of runners! Spotted in amongst, Sandra Chandler; but over the other side of the road so no pic. Fewer in the marathon but more Carnethys spotted (though by no means all – it looks like 10 ran), including the indefatigable Margaret. Sorry about the closed eyes Pam.
Bob J managed to dress up once again by swapping his shorts for the leggings of an elite runner who’d forgotten his. Or more likely wanted rid of a singularly ugly set of legwear.
We raise money for the club by marshalling, and for ourselves a running top (very orange but I like them; they’re quite good quality) and bacon rolls after. There was still no sign of the sun breaking through as we finished but at least the runners will stay cool. Results are here. Apologies if there is still anyone missing. Not everyone put Carnethy as their club!

Graham Nash – 4th Ramsay’s Round!
Congratulations to Graham Nash who finished his 4th Ramsay Round on Saturday! Solo, unsupported and without any drop bags – the purest form of any 24hr round. He also set a PB by two minutes.
His 4th round follows his:
– “accidental” round when supporting another runner in 2017.
– “wintry” round, requiring winter gear in 2016.
– “first” round, in 2013.
Amazing stuff! Congratulations, Graham!

Wed training
The 7pm group took advantage of the weather and went for a slightly longer run including Allermuir and Caerketton.
Jeff
The 7.30 group was led by Moira as Willie continues his island odyssey! And the 7pm group may have run further than our pleasant 10k but were any of them wearing a shirt and tie and celebrating their birthday?
