This was our third 16 mile circuit of Culter Fell. To add to the variety, this one enjoyed warm pleasant weather with occasional sun, biting insects and dense midsummer vegetation, but no aggressive grazing animals. On the very rough descent from Holme Nick, Andy’s demonstration of how to stay on his bike led to an evening in the minor injuries clinic to confirm his ballooned ankle was not broken and indeed he was able to finish the route before heading for the x-ray. The aggressive farmer now has an large ominous notice about dangerous loose dogs, which we bypassed easily, for Martha to a collect a puncture from a dangerous loose carpet tack. This was repaired whilst we were being watched through binoculars by quite non-aggressive farm-hands. A very pleasant circuit with no mud at all, but Kate managed to accidentally sit down in the middle of the only river crossing. The Mill Inn at Coulter is no more; a great loss.
