Always a pleasure to have a race as part of a local event, this being the East Linton Gala Day – where children get to spray silly string at each other and toot the siren on the fire engine, and adults get to eat burgers and drink beer. The weather this year was hanging on to sunny loveliness by the skin of its teeth. So a bit chilly and a bit cloudy. The infamous river crossing was a little deeper than the lack of rain implied, but the overall ascent was less than I remember. No idea about the pink skirted runners.
Being useless statistician this time I wrote it down… the winner was James Waldie in something like 38 mins (I didn’t write that bit down). 1st Carnethy back and 1st v40 in 5th place was Brian Dempster. Carnethy ladies took 1st and 2nd – being Jill Mykura and Elizabeth Leason. Gordon Cameron was 1st V60 and the afore mentioned ladies plus Clare McDonnell took the female team prize. Bill was in attendance but decided not to run, as “I’d take ages to get round”. My legs agreed with that and declined to bring me to the finish in anything resembling a decent time.
Thanks to Colin Elder for a well marked and marshalled course, and to the marshals and finish recorders. Results to follow.
