Distance: 9.4km | Ascent: 420m | Duration: 15 days | Race: 64 | Total runners: 81
Once just a Pentland Skyline outcast, Woohouselee hill is now officially Carnethy’s second favourite hill. The club President fully endorsed: “whatever you say Andy, just keep my handicap sensible”.
Course designer Ken got quite excited to see the Woodhouselee top had gained a wooden pole in the second week, thanks to unknown runner. This may have been a sign of people taking things seriously or just afraid of their own nav. Some great feedback from runners on the course. A fence and cows did create some challenge.
Imogen: “Thanks Ken for a fun route! lots of fun running with everyone”
Moira: “Familiar local paths but no stopping for badger spotting on this run!”
Margaret: “A great route, but challenging running this with my dog who had to be lifted over the fences”
Andrew: “Gutted to not make the race night but still took my Carnethy vest out on its maiden voyage!”
The turnout for the race was a near record. Only 1 short of the 2019 Arthur’s Seat which had 65. Blessed with good weather and good mix of runners, it was classic handicap race. If you want to know your race position, see race only results on Googlesheet. The overall results are here on website and the Googlesheet, this includes both virtual and race times.
Thanks to Ken for his Woodhouselee vision and arranging the post social at Cibo. Thanks to volunteers Willie and Declan for recording the race. There was 1 injury in the race, hopefully Phil recovers and back in the hills soon.
Handicap – Top 3 places:
Congratulations to Alison Burrells the handicap winner (pictured with prizes and dogs). Alison genuinely seemed to underestimate her hill running ability when requesting a handicap. It was comfortable win, but fair to say Alison was going full throttle in the race and looked cooked at the finish line. The top 3 in the handicap all ran in the Wednesday race.

Ladies – Fastest course time
Kate Macfarlane set the fastest ladies time taking good chunk off handicap prediction in the process.

Gents – Fastest course time
Reports of an unidentified flying blonde object turned out to be Daniel Stansfield. With no recce, it did not seem to matter, setting new men’s course record.

Some photos from the evening. Apologies for those who are missing due to my poor camera work (but now I’ve had an excellent camera photo tutorial from Peter Macdonald that won’t happen next time!).
