The 59th running of this race took place on 4th July, starting from Wooler Youth Hostel in torrential rain and finishing back there after 20 miles, 2 hills, hill fog and a lot of squelching in hot sunshine. With everyone swathed in waterproofs at the start I didn’t spot any Carnethy vests but know from the results that Cameron Murray was there as he came third – well done Cameron. Ian Twaddle won in 3 hours 2 mins and first lady was Henrietta Bolton Carter in 3 hours 58 mins. I was suffering a little from lack of hill fitness but did manage my best time for the course in 4 hours 26 mins. Many thanks to the organisers and small army of people that make this such a great race.
