With an amazing weekend of achievements where Carnethys ran in Hannaswept Ireland, Dawdled around the Lakes, got PBs in the London Marathon, cycled Etaps, smashed the Highland Fling in the rain and won individual and team Ultra Prizes, plus more no doubt, the Alternative John Muir Way Ultra was quite tame in comparison. We had four finishers but 14 sunburnt starters with lots of cake. The sun shined bright with a cool to warm breeze. Mist threatened then disappeared. Bill Gauld turned up in North Berwick to support us and tell us about bus and train times in East Lothian, then met us again in East Linton with a young lady in tow. Best not ask… Several ran back to Aberlady from North Berwick giving an 18 mile day.
We learnt a few things:
– Gio MacDonald is brave at swimming in the cool waters of Ravensheugh but not keen at wading a high tide cut off we found while trying to traverse under Tantallon lookout.
– Willie Mycura does a grand taxi service getting Lyndsey Blyth to a Longniddry station to have a chance to fly back to Exeter that night, and for me to get back to Aberlady to my bike.
– The Mart café in East Linton does good pies.
– If you find cake at the Hopetoun Monument, don’t steal it.
Thanks all for a grand day out, even if I didn’t finish it again. Piccies are from Aberlady to East Linton. Michelle’s photos here
