It was a superb day on Sunday for the 11th FTB race in Selkirk. Another brilliantly organised race by Sheila and team with support from Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue and landowners, thank you.
Conditions under foot this year were very favourable. There was a slight head wind on the outbound, otherwise perfect conditions for quick times. You still have the final climb up Foulshiels Hill which is a punishing one, but you know the rugby club with pie and soup is nearly in sight at that point.
45 of the 279 runners were flying the Carnethy flag.
Andrew Douglas from Westies led the field start to finish with an impressive 01:25:45. Carnethy Sasha Chepelin impressive record from 2023 of 01:24:18 remains elusive.
Chasing Andrew was new-ish Carnethy Csoban Balogh finishing 2nd, in what is possibly the 4th fastest all-time(?), bettered only by Andrew D (twice) and Sasha. The first 3 Carnethy men scooped the men’s team prize. The youngster Andrew Macrae beat his previous PB by 7 seconds to secure 1st MV50. The even younger Brian Howie was 1st MV70.
