A wee report from the first running of the “Eagle Hill” fell race in Moffat. The race formed part of a week of activities in Moffat supporting and celebrating the South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project.
Moffat is apparently Scotland’s first “Eagle Town”. The race suffered from competing events over the weekend and had a low turnout of just 26 runners with just 1 runner in a Carnethy vest. The race itself was a great route starting in the town centre with a steady progression uphill through road, track, trail, field, burn and then onto rough open hillside visiting Hind Hill twice and Greygill Head.
Winning time was 51:45 for a route of around 10 km and 550 m ascent. The local MSP turned up for the prize giving with every runner getting some eagle pins and a bottle or two of Golden Eagle Ale. Overall a great event which will hopefully return next year and is definitely worth supporting.
