Well done to the 23 Carnethys who recorded times for the Virtual Pentland Skyline during November 2020.
I decided to go early on in the month hoping for the sublime conditions like we had had for the shorter Glencorse Skyline the weekend before. How different could a week be with rain, wind and clag, coupled with a bog and a peat-fest in many places, making it a general slog. With a time of over an hour slower than my best race time I sat proudly at the top of the Leaderboard; well at least until the next person did it.
Conditions were obviously perfect for Jonny Muir who must be able to walk on bog and peat slurry and who stormed around in 2:52:48, being the only person to get under 3hrs. James Britton could have joined Jonny if he had trimmed 4 seconds off his time, so well done for reporting your accurate time. My new neighbour Richie Umpleby had a great run being 3rd fastest around.
Folk seemed to buddy up which is sensible at this time of year and Nicky Innes ticked off her 14th PS of the year. That is some achievement and added up to the same vertical ascent as the route is long. In my book, that should make it her 15th in a year!
Elizabeth Leason was the fastest Lady with Lucy Stansfield not too far behind. Morag McIntyre was 3rd. Andy and Hilary took up the race sweeper role possibly strolling around in a shade under 6 1/2 hrs.
Winter is here. It will get more challenging on the hills. I might seem like a bore but today a simple slip in wet snow lying on steep grass within eyesight of my new house resulted in a broken rib (or two, again). By the time stopped puking from the pain and got down I had cooled sufficiently to be hypothermic.
On the 12 Hills of Xmas which is now running, on intervals, training runs or if out on your own, please take spare warm kit etc for those little eventualities that can catch you and others out. Guidance on the website if you are not sure: http://carnethy.com/running/beginners/
