This weee Alt C5 route turned out to be fast and fairly runnable for those who can run fast. Seven appeared at the ski centre door. One returned in 38 mins, another in 22mins. Can anyone do a sub 20? I ran all the way, sort of, slowly. Can you?
The track rears quickly to the gate,
The trod to below the screes wiggles through grasses and rushes,
Views over the city expand,
The bridges come into view if you can look,
Climbing to the col is steepest,
Intervallers or the determined should run all the way.
The rocky top apoears and the wooden fence vaulted,
Or gingerly climbed over wrestling a dog,
The peat track is bone dry saving the usual bogfest to the gate,
Now the descent that no-one seems to like,
Route setter is cruel since the right side is faster,
But that’s not the line.
Pick up the path above the woods,
Thank Gordon for trimming the gorse and brambles back,
Caerketton’s East Face rears up,
A future Alt C5 climb?
Focus on the path, it’s rocky and trippy,
Fly down the descent through Erraid Wood with just enough light,
Through the gate and find the right contour back to the start,
You are done.
I hope more of you get out on these routes. Enjoy.
