Stuc is a cheeky wee race that kids-on it is a half marathon in distance with a few hills and bogs along the way. The ‘5000’ bit is feet of ascent so it is going to make you work for it.
Having starred as last Carnethy at Screel last month I set my sights low for my placing at Stuc and was not disappointed, although I somehow managed to miss out as last Carnethy (must cycle further next time).
The route was by far the driest compared to my previous 2 visits which made for a much less slippery trip for most of the way and not even a single dod of snow was seen. It was cold but clear and with great views with the odd wee squall of mini hail stones to sting your face and arms.
Finlay Wild won for the 4th year and got a PB. Given he was 5 mins ahead, our fasties need to up their game (the rest of us can relax).
We had three Carnethys in the top 5 with what must have been a close fight for 3rd by Eóin Lennon 8 seconds from Bronze.
Helen Fallas got 2nd Female
Eliot Sedman got 2nd MV40
Stewart Whitlie and Michelle Hetherington go top M and FV50 prizes.Full results are here – http://www.stucachroin5000.org.uk/ or to see how your club mates performed, a wee summary. Thanks to Stuart McMillan for a lift home. Photos from Russ Valentine here
