Meeting at KB the idea of heading out to the Pentlands garnered support from Michael McCloy, Jim Hardie and myself. I enthusiastically encouraged new member Brian Kennedy to join us (I mistakenly thought I had seen towards the sharp end of the Pentland Skyline race on Sunday) and so four of us set off in the longer/faster group. Heading out to Swanston I chatted to Brian and learnt that since starting to run at the start of this year he had been building up his runs with the aim of running 10 miles and increasing his vertical. Given that we were likely to cover 11 miles, in the dark, with a couple of Pentland peaks thrown in I was glad to hear that he had joined Carnethy in order to push his running on to the next level. From Swanston we took the ‘easy’ route up Allermuir before heading over to Caerketton and down to Hillend. Bypassing both The Steading and The Stables we made our way back to KB via Morton Hall. Arriving at KB in good spirits, if a little late, we found no trace of the social/super social groups so we continued on to Leslie’s Bar, where we met Willie as the sole representative of the other groups, and had a pint (or 6) as we planned out future adventures (anyone up for a Carnethy winter weekend or the Scottish 4000s in 2018?).
