Since 1993 the February Night Run has been from Flotterstone up Turnhouse onto Carnethy, run down the (illegal in the race) Screes and run back to Flotty.
So on Tuesday night I checked the web, SHOCK, no night run!
I must admit I was pleased as the thought of chasing the fasties up Turnhouse has lost its appeal of late. But Michael Wilkinson did not check and was the only runner at Flotty at 7pm. Lucky for him there was 30 minutes to get to KB and join the crocks and newbies
So as the Fast Socialites headed for Arthur’s Seat at 7pm, I decided to take the easy run to Braidburn Park and then on to Braids to introduce the group to the Cave on the west side of Braids (more of an overhanging rock that a cave really). 7 of us and Gigi the West Highland terrier set off to The Hermitage and on to Braidburn. A quick uphill sprint too us to The Braids.
With a photo stop at the cave we raced across Braids and then sprinted across the junior course, a gently climb up the infilled quarry took us onto Craigmillar Park and back to KB about 30 seconds before the 7 o’clockers.
It was good to introduce the newbies to the fasties, but I may be losing some of my runners to the faster group next week!
Mike and Bruce headed off to the pub, at least there are some people keen to not lose traditions!
