At the World Masters Mountain Running Championships, currently being held on the very hilly island of Madeira, Carnethy has had some brilliant results with Hilary Spenceley becoming World Champion in the Over 65 category, winning by just over half a minute, and Paul Faulkner likewise in the Over 50 category – two new World Champion for the club (although running for GB)! The course was an uphill only course of 9.2km with 800m ascent, suiting both of them.
As a bonus, Hilary picked up two gold medals as she also led the Great Britain Over 65 team to victory, so a double World Champion! Her training for this event was, of course, the Alternate C5, so next year listen to Mark Hartree and run it!
Stewart Whitlie also had a good run, finishing 7th in the Over 60s (won by another Scot, Colin Donnelly), and picked up a silver team medal as a counter in the GB Over 60 team.
