Hi – Congratulations on this impressive achievement!
I’ve just been reading various interesting articles about it, and noticed that on your website, Mark Hartree mentioned some similar attempts, and said “We are certainly the first single group or club to do this, possibly the first ever.” This is true as far as I know, but Edinburgh University Mountaineering Club had a 24-hour Munro-bagging attempt in 1979, from noon on 16 June to noon on 17 June. There were 279 Munros then, and around 75 people were involved, with double coverage of many hills. Reporting success from callboxes all over the highlands was challenging. At the time we believed we had succeeded, and this was reported in the Evening News, though many years later some doubt emerged over one of the hills when the person who’d done it went there again. It would be good to acknowledge this earlier feat, achieved in the days before lightweight gear and before anyone dreamt of doing some of the enormous days that are commonplace now!
Best wishes, Sally Lindsay
