With restrictions easing at last it means we can go off and explore new areas. And it’s even better when you are guided by people who know the route well. I’d already managed to get lost on the way there and only made it in time by some rally-style hurtling over cattle grids (even managed to get some air at one point!). Fortunately Dorothy & Billy are better navigators than me and led us round a lovely circuit in the lammermuir hills. We took in Spartleton Hill (would love to know the origin of the name), Spartleton Edge then past a poor dead adder up to Priestlaw hill. A nice undulating route took us around to the foot of Penshiel Hill. We were told this was the most un-runnable hill in the Lammermuirs. I didn’t see what the problem was until we got to the top and endured half a mile of incredibly tussocky tussocks. To add to the jeopardy Dorothy disturbed a very not dead adder! After that it was a smoother journey back to the cars. Thanks to Dorothy & Billy and here’s hoping for a summer of discovering new places to run.
