7 runners braved the descending gloom last night for the second race in the Alternative Carnethy 5 Series. The course was set by Matt Davis, so it was going to be “interesting”.
From the off Alex McVey took the lead and I did my best to stay with him until the descent off East Cairn where his longer legs carried him off down the heather into the mist. Not be seen again until the finish. Well done Alex 2 wins from 2. But remember all to play for, with Bob’s magical scoring system!
The route was straightforward to the coll between the 2 tops on East Cairn, following the dry (normally boggy) path, and then it got “interesting”. A faint quad track wound its way down Mid Hill to the old quarry, some great running. And then folk seemed to take different lines to Listonshiels before gaining the track back to the start. By the finish the mist was down below 1,000ft.
Tonight is race number three, Caerketton Downhill race, courtesy of Mark Johnston. Registration is from 6.00 to 6.30pm from the bottom car park at Hillend (free entry to Carnethy members wearing the club vest).

ps – it’s by no means too late to join in!
