23 runners (including 2 juniors) plus 2 dogs assembled at Swanston for the running of the second race in the Alternative Carnethy 5 race series.
A cracking evening, with the sun starting to get lower in the sky and no midgies.
With any choice of route to the summit the runners were together until the golf club house, and then a few split to the right along the edge of the golf course to take a more direct line – avoiding the golfers playing with their balls.
Its a steady 1.5 mile climb, along a good runnable track gaining 338 metres to the highest point on the 493 metre high point on the Northern ridge of the Pentlands.
First to the summit was Paul Faulkner. As the runners arrived and recovered, they cheered everyone else to the viewfinder an were rewarded with a fantastic sunset.
The next race in the series is the Caerketton Downhill Race tonight. Registration is from 6pm to 6.30pm at the Lower Hillend Car park.
If anyone hasn’t managed to do a race yet, remember you have until midnight on Sunday 14th Sept – so plenty of time. Its probably the best weeks training you’ll do all year!
