I know little of what happened on Day 1 – the mere mention of it to the survivors caused them to tremble and change the subject. It was very windy, and very wet. Sunday though was lovely, and that was the day I chose to go up.
Seven intrepid MMers set off into the hills to the west of Lochearnhead, and also south which added a tactical twist. Iain, Jeff, Paul and junior Euan (the Meldon mini hero), Paul and Brian, and myself headed off for four hours of score class from Win Rampen’s place. Iain Whiteside set off with the intention we suspected of doing all the controls. Paul and Brian chose to finish their breakfast and then set off.
Everybody returned within the given time. By my reckoning the results are as follows :-
Who | How far run? | How much ascent? | How many points? |
Iain | 30km | 1580m | 190pts |
Jeff | 19.5km | 1000m | 170pts |
Joel | 23km | 1040m | 160pts |
Paul and Euan | 15km | 750m | 110pts |
Paul and Brian | 15km | 610m | 100pts |
Some interesting post run analysis. Iain won, but with 50% more distance and ascent only gaining him 20 points over Jeff. Jeff had an excellent route choice picking up 10 more points than me whilst not running as far as me or climbing as much. The most excellent prizes (donated by Paul and Brian) were awarded to Paul and Euan for their moral victory!
A big thank you to Win for hosting the event and showing me his hydro scheme.
