Sunday 8th of June was a humid, muggy, sticky, and sunny start to the Dechmont Law 10k trail race organised superbly by Lothian RC. If you’ve never run this race I’d definitely recommend it for next year. It is mostly run on wooded undulating trails, nice muddy sections, with only a mere couple of hundred yards on tarmac. It’s a hard, interesting course, as proved by the GPX, there’s plenty of turns and double backs, nice little variations in surface so you need to concentrate, but it was always well marked and marshalled by cheerful volunteers, spotted a marshall kitted out in an alien costume at one point, or was that the sun getting to me?!!?
The race was won by Max McNeil of Lothian RC in 34 something, James Waldie finished 2nd not far behind, 35:11 I think. I managed to scrape inside top ten for 41.36, knocking over a minute off last year’s time, managing to reel in Nigel Shekleton in the last 4kms, although to be fair he was on his second 10k of the weekend after Haddington yesterday and finished in 42.11.. Good atmosphere and goody bag!
