An elite hit squad of Carnethies travelled down to Broughton for a chilly but very sunny blast of a race from the brewery over a wall, through a raging torrent then icy bog up a hill and back down to the village hall. As Ken noted on Facebook getting a lift with me seemed to guarantee success. Actually the reason Finn Lydon won was that he was so traumatised after listening to me and Fionna comparing menopause symptoms on the way down that he leapt out of the car and ran up the nearest hill as fast as his legs could carry him. I think I saw Andy Lamont being pursued downhill by a large banana, he was certainly going flat out and won the MV40 prize. I’m not sure if Heidi Ross beat the banana or not but she ran well and was second lady. Fionna Mackinnon was first FV50 and I even managed to scrape 3rd FV50 despite having not raced in, erm, quite a long time. The banana won a special prize for running dressed as a banana and all first prize winners got a box of Borders edibles*
A good fun race organised by Penicuik Harriers – definitely recommended as a start to the racing year.
*vegetables and the like. What other kind of edibles are there?
