It gives me great pleasure to say that, although the Bucket List challenge wasn’t a competition, we definitely won. We managed to collect a total of 5785 points with HBT sitting at 5265 – a commendable effort none the less!
I am not sure if I am more impressed by 159 people taking part, 23 spotting the somewhat elusive otter, or 67 getting half naked on Black Hill. I will leave that up to you.
We had some incredible efforts with captain Mark visiting almost every checkpoint in 31 kilometers, Michelle and Alan running them all in 54 kilometres and Lucas, humbling us all, with his 65-kilometre bucket list round.
Some interesting outcomes from the challenge including the uptake of open water swimming and the far inferior sport of orienteering. This is a good time to mention that if anyone found the thrill of losing a finger and toe as they almost drowned that there is a wonderful group of swimmers in the club who tickle with the sport regularly – please get in touch to join in on the activities.
We also discovered some wonderful poets in the club. The book will be collected, and I will do a post with as many salvaged poems as I can. I will also be finding a better box, and placing a waterproof journal at the top, so the Carnethy visitors’ book can become a more permanent feature.
The clubs were also both fantastic at getting naked and gaining photographic evidence. This will definitely be considered for future challenges- could this be the start of a nude November or a charity naked calendar? Watch this space.
Please also consult the google doc for a further breakdown of the challenges and see the YouTube video for a story line for our Bucket List Challenge. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Chameleon Lady for allowing us the rights to use their song Home (Highlands) in our video. They are a fantastic local band, and we can only hope to meet them in the flesh at a Carnethy Ceilidh soon.
It was wonderful to see so many people getting involved, especially with activities that they would not normally venture into. That’s a wrap for now, but fingers crossed the next planned HBT v Carnethy challenge will be face to face.
