There were several Carnethys spotted enjoying themselves at this year’s GLL3D despite mixed weather. If you haven’t heard of it then I would really recommend the this to anyone wanting to dip a toe into the world of self navigated multi-day events. Often described as a mountain marathon with all the horrible bits removed the event team transports your gear to the overnight camp leaving you fairly unencumbered as you take your choice of route. 6 course options were on offer with varying degrees of length, ascent & navigational difficulty. Unfortunately it was clagged in on Saturday and Sunday with Sunday especially wet but that merely added to the route finding fun, or so I told myself as I realised I was at the wrong control in the wrong village and decided that the best course of action was to head into the nearest cafe and eat chips.
It was dog friendly too so I had the joy of sharing a leaky tent with a stinking soggy springer spaniel. Words cannot fully describe how bad I smelt at the end of the three days but it was mainly type 1 fun and impressively well organised.
