To all you crazy Carnethies:
It is with a heavy heart that I had to say goodbye to you all and as a last report I’d like to take a moment to thank you for all the memories. I’m not sure what I expected from my study abroad experience in Scotland, but whatever it was, Carnethy was not it. I never expected to lose to an 80-year-old sliding down a hill on his arse, or to see Bob’s arse at the top of another hill. I certainly never expected to be offered a flask (more than once) by Willy mid-run, or to frolic through mud, hills, and more often than not, sheep poo on a regular basis. I never expected to have Mark drunkenly yell at me to “man up” while suffering the effects of stomach flu, or to have the restraint to not punch him, and I never thought Graham would end up being the most sane appearing, after first discovering his version of “short, easy hills.” But most of all, I never expected Carnethy, with all it’s crazy shenanigans and even crazier members to be the best part of study abroad. I never thought I would grow fonder of Digby’s random drug comments than my actually high flatmates or that I would come to value my time with Carnethy above all else. The last minute races, and random adventures coupled with the ever-glowing faces of those well acquainted with alcohol are memories I will treasure for a long time. I thank each and every one of you for being a part of my experience, especially those who gave me rides all the time and made my participation possible! Please don’t forget this young, slow American on the other side of the pond because it’ll be awkward when I visit if you do. So once again, thank you all so very much and I wish you all the best in the New Year.
Lots of Love,
Anya
PS. I’m seriously considering moving to Edinburgh.
