With everyone else off doing mighty things like the Trotternish ridge or the LAMM, I went for the much more benign Gargunnock race, on the pretty escarpment you see from the road to Callander. With entirely venal motives I figured the V60 pot was in sight, but didn’t count on the limited prize range of 1st five men and three ladies. The race is part of the Gargunnock farmers show, with the usual mix of events and competitions including permed sheep, ferret racing, most beautiful massive bull, best macaroon, finest old tractor and similar exotica. Torrential downpours cleared for long enough to run the race which is fully marshalled and marked. Peals of thunder encouraged us to finish rapidly, to a tent filled with dangerously delicious cake. Very tasty! Wonder if I beat the other V60s… Results Wow! Did rather well!
