Last night held the 3rd Winter Talk of the series.
Those attending heard from Helen Bonsor on the joys and pains of running a 7 day race over the Alps where holding hands is a good strategy, and from Heavy Whalley on life in Mountain Rescue that took us from 1972 to the 1990’s and included Lockerbie and his amazing dog Teallach, with a second half possible. Greg McInness (Boswell) told the gripping tales of climbing some of the hardest winter routes in Canada with collapsing ice chandeliers and what it is like to come face to face, or leg to jaw, with a Canadian Grizzly Bear. I slept with the tune “If you go out in the woods today……beware of a big surprise” gulp.
If you missed it, poor you!
I counted about 100 people in the room with ages from 8 – 88 years old (or thereabouts) and record proceeds of the collection going to Torridon Mountain Rescue Team on request of Heavy Whalley. We have one more talk to go on Tuesday 17th April. See you there.
