This weekend was the first Carnethy MMM event for the year, set up by John Busby, to help us newbies improve our navigation skills. Kirsty attended the earlier brief before we both departed from The Steading, battling against very strong winds. Armed with map and compass we headed towards where we believed the first check point was located. It proved more challenging than we thought……undeterred we continued on. After being nearly nearly blown off our feet at Windy Door Nick it was reassuring to to see friendly Carnethy faces out on the same mission.
Photographic evidence is our proof that we were successful to some extent. We decided to cut our losses and miss out the furthest away 30point check point.
Fantastic morning out, allowing us to get more confident as we went around. The most important things we learned are that 1. You need to wear far more clothes than when on a normal run to stay warm, with all the stopping, searching and starting we were both very cold at the finish. 2. Probably best NOT to run with a friend if you both have a lot of chat to catch up on, concentration is key! 3. This type of event is great fun.
Well done to everyone who took part and to those who ran faster, further and with more expertise than we did. Thank you to John for the opportunity and encouragement.
