As soon as my uncle announced his wedding on the Friday before the Fling, I knew I’d have to wait until at least 2020 to have another crack at it. Rescinding my place, I quickly scoured the internet for another race and found the Shakespeare Marathon, two hours south of the wedding in Barnsley.
The Marathon starts at the same time as the half and takes in Stratford-Upon-Avon over two loops, taking in Shakespeares birthplace and Anne Hathaways cottage (not our beloved Fantine like I initially suspected). Unlike Las Palmas, I decided to go with a group of half marathoners and see how long I could keep up the pace. Long story short, I finished 35th in 3:11:45. An 18 minute PB.
Must’ve been Tuesdays Hillend-sprints.
Congratulations to all the Carnethies racing last weekend! What a weekend it was.
