Sunday in the town of Duns was the final point scoring race in the Borders XC 2023/24 series. There will be a final presentation round in Gala.
It was 2x4km runnable laps of the scenic Duns Castle Estate. A pleasant track towards the castle and around Hen’s Poo Lake, was more pleasant than the name suggests. There was an actual hill on this course, but we didn’t go to the top – it was fun while it lasted though. We finished each lap charging across fields on firm ground. The final jump over some logs and a burn was probably more for spectator entertainment than for runners since there was a perfectly solid bridge 10 metres away.
Chirnside Chasers hosted this well organised race. There were some good tunes pumping out of the speakers during and at the end race, available is the Borders XC Spotify playlist.

Carnethy Duns and Series 2023/24 Results
• New Carnethy member Hollie Hindley won at Duns, making it 4 wins from 4 races to convincingly win the series. Rosalind Heron was 3rd at Duns, finishing 5th in the series.
• Hilary Spenceley got the F60 win in Duns finishing the series in 3rd behind Carole Fortune who was 2nd in series but not running in Duns. It’s been a close battle behind the HBT overall F60 winner.
• Andrew Macrae won the M50+ race and 1st in the series nearly making it clean sweep like Hollie.
• Neil Gilmore was 2nd in the M60 at Duns, 3rd in the series. Neil went for the sprint finish on Sunday trying to take on the unsuspecting guy in front, “it was an HBT runner, otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered”.
