Eight Carnethys signed up for the Scottishathletics virtual one mile challenge which took place over last weekend. You had four days to do a one mile run and submit your time and a link to your run (garmin/strava).
Seven completed the task with other commitments scuppering Dessie’s plans at the last minute. An amazing 1247 people submitted times with the fastest posted by Kane Elliott of Falkirk in a swift 4m14s.
None of us were quite in Kane’s league but it was a good showing nonetheless. James led the way with a 5m05s round the Meadows with Jonathan not far off that.
Our results were :
125. James Britton 5.05
137. Jonathan Mason 5.09
192. Mark Johnston 5.18
251. Mike Reid 5.28
326. Neil McLure 5.39
492. Garry Forfar 5.58
1131. Caitlin Ripley 7.46
Senior Teams (of four) – 38th/254 teams
Vet Teams (of four) – 10th/63 teams
Most people opted for a flat as possible uninspiring route, though Caitlin took a much nicer option of a loop round Covenanter’s Wood.
If nothing else it was good to have a challenge to aim for and an excuse to ‘race’ again and be part of a team. The next Scottishathletics challenge is over the weekend of 29th May to 1st June and you can opt for a 15min or 30min challenge (see how far you can run). Entries will open on the Scottishathletics website from Monday I think (see the events section). I’ll likely opt for the 30min challenge to get my money’s worth (it’s free!). Sign up for Team Carnethy!
