Mark Hartree and Fraser Gibson’s Ramsay attempt got under way at 8am Saturday morning. Tracking is available courtesy of a tracker loaned to the club by Paul McGreal at Durty Events, thanks Paul.
After losing time on the Carn Mor Dearg , Fraser got left behind (to continue to Larig Leacach and drop out), while Mark carried on but due to a sore knee and poor weather on The Mamores Mark lost time, Mark got round in 24:49.
An amazing effort!
Marks Report – Full report here
I will write a full report tomorrow for the record but in the interim, I must thank the generosity, kindness, thoughtfulness and endurance of an amazing team who supported me on my Ramsay’s Round attempt on 14-15 June 2014. I counted over 30 people, some I had not even met before, others just once. There were some immense commitments, some people on the hill for over 17hrs, others doing over 35 miles, others travelling thousands of miles to be there. And some nice surprises along the way especially Molly’s Dad Julian at 0330 and an unmistakable voice in the mist from Heavy Whalley at 6am to egg me on, even though I never saw him. Next time I will get the 3 ingredients together: Mind (including planning and support) scored -> 10/10; Weather -> 6/10; Body -> 9/10 at start, 3/10 at end, minus 5/10 in the middle and when running was too painful. I finished at a leisurely pace as a 43 minute descent of Mullach Nan Coirean was impossible and paragliders and mountain bikes are not allowed. Running hard on RR is mandatory for sub 24 hrs. 24hrs 49mins means Bob J saves a few quid in his bet I’d do sub 24, but tonight I topped £5000 raised for the charity SMA Support UK so thanks to all who have donated so far. Maybe next time….
