- Borders Cross Country League Overall Results February 18, 2015
Last weekend saw the final race of the Borders league at Conundrum. Highlights were a great series taking us to all corners of the Borders with seven races, proving winter is not a reason to stop racing. Lots of runners this year from the Club with winners at the prize giving on Sunday being…
- Charlotte Morgan: First Senior lady in her category and first overall
- Michael Reid: 1st Senior male overall
- Andy Fallas: 2nd Senior male (with Andy preferring a long run after posting a reasonable time for his C5 jog the day before)
- Mike Andrew: showing continual improvements with 3rd V50
- Ian Nimmo: showing age is no obstacle with 1st Male V70
and we also won Male Team overall ahead of Gala/HBT etc with counters across the series being Andy Fallas, Mathew Curry, Andrew Gilmore, Iain Gilmore & Michael Reid. Apologies for any prize winners I missed.
- Borders XC at Dunbar January 25, 2015
Today’s race in the Borders Cross Country series was at Whitesands and Barns Ness near Dunbar. I haven’t been here since a family camping holiday in the early ’70s. The beach hasn’t changed much and Barns Ness Lighthouse and the Cement Works are still there, but so, too is the more recent building of Torness Nuclear Power Station. We ran out towards Torness and then headed into the wind on the return leg. A good race and I enjoyed being able to see a long snake of runners along the beach (I was at the back, obviously). Looking forward to the next (and last for this series) race at Berwick in February.
- Borders XC at Paxton House January 11, 2015
There was heavy snow falling in Colinton just before Ian and I left for the cross country race at Paxton today, but thankfully no snow when we arrived. I feel I’m getting into the way of these short, friendly winter races (after a ten year break), but this one was shorter than usual. Apparently, the leading runners took a wrong turn and could not be redirected by the marshals, thereby shaving off a loop of running. It was a long way to drive to run 2.6 miles, but still good fun with numerous river crossings (only one with a bridge) and endless fields of mud (one runner in front of me lost her shoe)! Good to see lots of Carnethies running.
Carnethies bag top spots!
Mike Reid was first man, Charlotte Morgan first lady. Andrew Gilmore was hot on Mike’s heels in 2nd place.
Still no cumulative results on the borders xc website, but full marks to them for getting provisional results out astoundingly quickly (see here http://www.bordersxc.com/)
- Andy & Charlotte win Borders Cross Country at Chirnside December 14, 2014
No cumulative placings for the series yet, but yesterday’s Borders XC at Chirnside won’t have done anyone’s prize prospects any harm at all. Andy Fallas won the race, with Mike Reid in second place. Charlotte Morgan continued her battle with Dianne Lauder, taking the top spot on this occasion (and 8th overall!). That makes it 2 wins apiece heading into 2015, so still everything to play for. Many other good performances from lots of Carnethies.
It was good to see several Carnethies at the Chirnside race of the Borders Cross Country today. The snow and ice had disappeared to ensure the paths were good and muddy. I even felt some warmth with the sun on my back (but maybe that’s a sign, as if I need one, that I was running too slowly?). I persuaded a bystander to take a few photos of our group, but in every one there is a rogue bum and knee photo bombing the image.
- Borders Cross Country – Peebles November 30, 2014
Perfect running conditions today for the Borders Cross Country Series in Peebles. The route includes a fast run by the river, a proper hill, a steep and rooty descent, and the usual slightly random loops and zigzags apparently loved by XC runners. I counted about 20 Carnethies, plus at least one undercover Carnethy runner. Mike Reid bagged the top spot, chased by Andy Fallas in second position. Charlotte Morgan was second lady after Diane Lauder. The course was ideal for lazy photographers with the runners passing by five times within a two minute walkable radius.
This was my first X country race in about 10 years and I didn’t really know what to expect. It was great fun with lots of Carnethy and Penicuik friends running and cheering us on. Looking forward to the next race at Chirnside.

Routes of Lauder and Gala
- Borders XC Race 1: Lauder November 5, 2014
Sunday saw the first Borders XC race of the series, held at Lauder. Weather was kind to us and we had lots of Carnethy vests on show.
Andy F strolled home to win the men’s race and Charlotte won the ladies. Other winners in categories were Helen Bonsor, Mike Andrew & Bill Gauld
Next race is in Gala on Sunday 16th Nov and we can expect lots more mud at this one.
